Kinshasa Gospel Crusades Delvaux Field
27th July – 1st August 2004
Surrounded by lively street markets that had a constant stream of people
coming and going from early morning to late into the night, the soccer
field in Delvaux Ngaliema couldn’t have been a better location for our
2nd Kinshasa City crusade. The powerful sound carried the Gospel message
to every market stall, while the Holy Spirit drew thousands to the field
every night. Those that could not leave their stalls heard the word of
God and responded right where they sat. Bernadette my interpreter, told
me her daughter had visited the market after one evening meeting and
every stall was talking and rejoicing about what the Lord was doing.
By the weekend the field was packed with over 16,000 people as I
preached a very clear Gospel message, and at the time of the alter call
every hand shot up responding to the call of salvation, thousands of
people cried out to Jesus Christ with all of their hearts for
forgiveness of sins. Our counselling team was stretched to the limit and
could hardly cope to register the multitude of decisions. Still they
managed to register 5620 and complete the cards with contact details so
the participating churches can follow up the new believers. Still
thousands more called on the name of Jesus in the markets and in the
bars. While we do all we can with regard to the important work of
follow-up, we can never forget Acts 2:21 ‘and it shall come to pass that
whoever calls on the name of the LORD Shall be saved.’
A counsellor testified on behalf of a man who was drawn to the crusade.
The man sat in the bar across the street. As he heard the crusade in
progress the Spirit of God drew him to the soccer field, he dropped his
beer to the ground and crossed the road, making his way to the terrain.
That night the man received Jesus Christ as his savior as heard the good
news of salvation.
Shireen and Charlene Harris worked for weeks in advance preparing the
churches having over 56 preparation meetings which included praise and
worship seminars, counsellor training, and intercession meetings. Brandy
Gottlieb and a team of 50 fiery Congolese Christians witnessed one to
one and handed out close to 16000 invitations to the crusade in the
street markets. About 90 people were saved during this preparation time.
So many sick people came to the meetings. One specific need that touched
my heart was a letter from a young man 14 years of age that was
tormented with a terrible problem of wetting his bed every night. Now he
was about to be chased from the house if he did not stop. We prayed
several times for this need, which is a great problem among so many.
Towards the end of the week a young girl boldly testified that for the
last three nights she had not had a problem and believed she was now
healed. For two years mama Julia couldn’t stretch her left arm because
of the intense pain that ran through it, but after hearing the Word of
God and responding, this mama raised her arm above her head testifying
that Jesus removed the pain and made her whole.
Malueka terrain Regi is the venue for our next Kinshasa City Crusade.
This is a densely populated area on the outskirts of Kinshasa . Many of
the people can not afford transport to come into the city. So we are
going to them. Already Charlene and the preparation team are hard at
work preparing the ground. In just one week Shireen will return to help
with the final preparations. Please pray with us for these upcoming
meetings. There are many logistical challenges, but mostly that the
Gospel meetings have a powerful impact on the whole community of Malueka.
Also each morning we minister to hundreds of Pastors and leaders, please
pray that we would be able to impact their lives in a powerful way.
The Delvaux Kinshasa Team Below
are just a few of the team members. We include all our PRAYER PARTNERS
and thank each one of you for helping us reach Kinshasa with the Gospel
Message.
Arriving in Kinshasa I was amazed to see so many bars.
When I say bars I mean anything from plastic garden furniture arranged
on the pavement around a fridge to a typical nightclub disco. Multitudes
walking on the streets, huge trucks piled with cargo then hundreds of
people riding on top. Smoke blowing across the road from the burning
rubbish dump. We were in the midst of a sea of people. As the campaign
started I wanted to present the Gospel as accurately and powerfully as
possible. It was wonderful to see how God’s word touched so many hearts.
During the altar calls I could see people in bars, at tables and chairs
along the road side, on roof tops, and all over the field almost every
person raised their hands to heaven asking Jesus for forgiveness of
sins. We were literally taking the gospel to the streets of Kinshasa .
The handful of counsellors were able to record 1150 decisions for the
Lord. However every night the entire crowd of about 4 to 5 thousand
raised their hands for salvation. We praise the Lord for those who
accepted Jesus as Lord and Saviour
